Reserve Police Officers
Reserve officers are fully trained and certified to perform law enforcement duties within departmental policy and Tennessee State Law. Typically, they serve the department on a voluntary-time, on-call basis. Their responsibilities include assisting with patrol operations, traffic management, crowd control, and community-oriented policing activities. By augmenting frontline staffing, the reserve unit enhances the department’s ability to maintain public safety coverage without the cost of expanding full-time personnel. Reserve officers are required to work a minimum of 16 hours a month and special events held by the Town of Oakland.
The unit operates under the supervision of the Assistant Chief of Police along with the Uniform Patrol Commander who oversees training compliance, readiness standards, and deployment assignments. While limited in size, the five-member reserve unit provides the Oakland Police Department with a flexible, scalable resource that can be mobilized quickly to support core policing functions when needed.
